Alfred Prufrock" (1915), "The Waste Land" (1922) and "The Hollow Men" (1923). In a lighter vein, he wrote Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats (1930), the basis for Andrew Lloyd Weber's Cats (1981). The most famous of his plays is Murder in the Cathedral, written in 1935 when European fascism was on the rise. Critics scathingly attacked his early poems, which were considered shocking at the time, but there is a floor stone in his honor in Poet's Corner of Westminster Abbey.
